HANGING AND CARING FOR YOUR BRASS PAINTING
• CARE •
Your artwork is delicate and needs to be treated with extra care.
First things first - wear clean cotton gloves whenever handling this piece (if that's not an option, only handle the plywood back and sides). Your painting sits on genuine, raw, un-lacquered brass - that's what makes it beautiful. Moisture and oil (particularly from fingers) will leave a mark.
Mind the edges - pine plywood is soft, so take care not to knock them during installation. Same goes for the painted surface. As the paint is applied thickly, extra care must be taken not to scratch the surface.
To keep your artwork looking it's best, dust regularly with a soft, dry duster or microfibre cloth.
In time, raw brass is likely to age and develop a lovely patina as a result of oxygen in the air. You might enjoy this look! If you'd prefer shiny brass, you can gently clean the surface using a dry polishing or jewellery cloth suitable for brass. Avoid any harsh chemicals. When cleaning, avoid the painted area and move the cloth in the same direction as the natural grain on surface of brass (this will be either up and down or left to right).
• HANGING •
Ensure your artwork is mounted by a qualified tradesperson.
Choose a position away from foot traffic to avoid coming into contact with edges of artwork. Avoid damp areas, for example bathrooms and kitchens.
Each artwork has a hanging ring which is recessed into the ply board (to allow for flush mounting against the wall).
On your wall, install a screw or small picture hook suitable for the wall's substrate as well as the size of hanging ring. Ensure screw or hook is sufficient for weight loading of artwork.
For a flush mount, make sure the depth of hook or exposed section of screw does not exceed the depth of recess in ply board.
Carefully lower the ring onto the screw or hook. Ensure the artwork is hanging from the ring and not just resting on the ply board.
